Helen Brain
I am a writer and writing teacher, living in Cape Town, South Africa.
I published my first book in 1997, and now have over thirty books for children under my belt. I've also published a memoir and short stories for adults.
Most of my books have been translated into Afrikaans, and some have also appeared in Portuguese, Xhosa, Zulu and Tswana.
One of my teenage novels won an ATKV prize, an award that is voted for by teenage readers. Another was first runner up, and I was nominated for a Women Demand Dignity White Ribbon award for my memoir about child abuse, 'Here be Lions'.
I teach writing at an online writing school. and have students all over the world.
I also write a weekly column for a newspaper, and have a large readership for my blog.
