The Desmond Tutu Children's Bible, the world's biggest children's Bible project, was launched at the Cape Town Book Fair on 30 July 2010.

The Children of God Storybook Bible is the world’s biggest children’s Bible project, appearing simultaneously in English, Afrikaans, Sesotho, Setwana, Xhosa, Zulu, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch and Danish. It was launched at the Cape Town Book Fair on 30 July 2010.

Featuring well loved stories retold by the Archbishop in his uniquely exuberant and endearing voice, it is designed to appeal to children between the ages of four and seven.

Bible Stories for Children

The Children of God Storybook features over 50 of the best loved stories from the Old and New Testaments. The Archbishop selected these stories to show that God wants all people to love one another, and to live with peace and forgiveness in their hearts. He chose stories that show that women and men are equal in the eyes of God.

Christian Literature for Kids

The Children of God Storybook is designed to introduce children to Christianity as a ‘way of life’, rather than a system of beliefs and dogmas. The emphasis is on God’s love for everyone, regardless of gender, age, race or belief system.

The publishers took care to ensure that children of all cultures will find the book appealing.

Celebrating Diversity

Producing a storybook Bible for children from many different cultures presents difficulties when it comes to illustration.

To ensure that children everywhere would find the illustrations attractive and relate to them, a team of twenty top artists from around the world were selected to illustrate the stories, in a style that captured their own cultures. The result is a blend of artistic voices that make the book immensely appealing.

Desmond Tutu

Archbishop Desmond Tutu has a deep love for children. He and his wife Leah have four children and seven grandchildren.

He lives in South Africa, where he led the non-violent protest that culminated in the release of Nelson Mandela from prison, and the dismantling of apartheid.

He also chaired the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, a process whereby South Africans could tell their stories and find healing, forgiveness, and reconciliation with those who had previously been their enemies.

He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984. He turns 79 in October 2010, and will be retiring from public life at this time.

Gifts for Children

The Children of God Storybook Bible would make an excellent gift for a Christening or for a new baby. It would also be a suitable birthday or holiday gift for any child up to aged 8.

The Children of God Storybook Bible ISBN 9780310719120 is published in English by Lux Verbi, Harper Collins UK, Zonderkidz, and also in a range of African and European languages.

A variety of audio, digital and downloadable products will shortly be available to complement this beautiful edition to every Christian child’s bookshelf.
