Writing a thank you letter to a sports coach can be simple if you follow these easy steps.
What Have You Learned From This Coach?
Think of the ways your coach has helped you. Perhaps he or she encouraged you to try out for a team, gave you a lift to practice, or helped you with extra coaching. Perhaps he or she helped you to become more focused or to master a skill that you had been battling with.
Perhaps your coach was good emotionally, helping you to face your fears, or to keep trying when you wanted to give up. He or she may have shown faith in your abilities and encouraged you to reach your goals.
How to Structure the Thank You Note
A good thank you letter is specific in its thanks. It is personal and dignified without being soppy or over the top. The structure can be very simple. In the example below,
- The first paragraph says a general thank you.
- The second paragraph mentions specific things the writer is grateful for.
- The third paragraph concludes the letter, giving good wishes for the future.
A Sample Thank You Letter
Dear Mr Adams,
Thank you so much for coaching me this year. I appreciate everything you have done for me both on the field and off.
I never thought I would make it into the A team. Your encouragement and the extra coaching you arranged for me meant that I have gone further than I could ever have imagined. You are a great psychologist, as well as a great sports coach!
I hope you have a wonderful holiday and come back refreshed and ready to tackle the new semester.

Unlike emails and text messages, a thank you note or letter may be kept for years by your coach. Make sure that your note is written on good quality writing paper, or choose an attractive greeting card.
